Easy, Healthy, and Delicous Chinese Style Steamed Garlic Shrimp

Happy New Year!
Let’s start the new year with this health, delicious, and yet Super Easy Chinese garlic shrimp recipe with salty-sweet garlic sauce. If you like shrimp and garlic, this is a must try dish.
Hands-on Time: 3 min. Total Time: 7 min.
SHORT VERSION:
Peel and finely chop garlic gloves (~ 5). In a bowl, mix cooking wine (3T), soy sauce (2T), Sugar (T), and finely chopped Garlic. Cut shrimp into half, put on a plate. Drizzle the sauce over the shrimp. Steam Shrimp over boil water for 3 minutes. Done.
TIP:
Tip.1
Smash the garlic gloves will make them easy to peel. 
Tip.2
If you have blender or food processor, simply coarse blend all the sauces and peeled garlic gloves to make the garlic sauce.  
Tip.3
Slice the shrimp into half (but leave the tail on) for better presentation and better penetration of the sauces.
Tip.4
Create the steam (boil the water) before putting shrimp into the steamer. If you don’t have tools specific for steam, you can check my setup below.
GOING THE EXTRA MILE (G.E.M.) – the small steps to take you dish to the next level

Add pre-soaked (or lighly cooked) rice noodle underneath the shrimp before you pour the sauce over. The noodles can saoked the sauce and this will make a delicious meal in 1 cooking step!

Sprinkle chopped scallions for presentation.
COOKWARE:
  • Skillet/pot/wok with a lid ( large opening to fit the plate, deep enough for steam)
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Measuring spoons
  • bowl for mixing sauce

INGREDIENTS:

Protein
  • Shrimp – 0.5 lb.

Sauce/condiments/Spices:

Units: t = teaspoon, T = tablespoon.
*note* relative ratio is more important the absolute amount.
  • Cooking wine (water is ok) – 3T
  • Soy Sauce – 2T
  • Sugar – 1T
  • Garlic – 5 glvoes or 1 to 2 T finely chopped.

Slice the body of the shrimp in half but keep the tail intact.
COOKING STEPS:

In a deep pot (I’m using a wok), fill 2 Cups of water, high heat, put a rack so the shrimp can stay bove water.

Put shrimp on a plate or container of your choice, pour sauce (from Prep.2) over the shrimp evenly.

Once water is boiling (hot steam created), put the shrimp into the wok, cover with a lid for 3 minutes
Turn off heat and take the shrimp out. Done!
